Renowned for his prideful personality and being a capable goalkeeper, Genda earned himself the title of "King of Goalkeepers" at Teikoku Gakuen. He later supports his captain, Kidou, when he decides they will no longer follow the orders of their coach, Kageyama. After Teikoku Gakuen's loss against Zeus, however, he and Sakuma were lured by Fudou to join Shin Teikoku Gakuen, a team coached by Kageyama, in hopes of becoming stronger and no longer needing their former captain, Kidou. Sometime later, after the Shin Teikoku Gakuen incident, he joined Neo Japan, a team created by Hitomiko, in order to take Inazuma Japan's place as the national team in the Football Frontier International tournament.
