Nicolls was born sometime on March 6 in Sacramento, California. As an adult, he became a voice actor and became involved with a number of English-dubbed versions of international shows. He joined the Pokémon anime during Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. His most notable role so far in that work is Laki.
